St. Gilgen – For beyond-beautiful landscapes and stirring sense of history.
Straddling the shores of Lake Wolfgang, St Gilgen’s alter ego as ‘Mozart Village’ means that it’s as culturally rich as it is scenically striking, affording visitors a fascinating destination to discover while unwinding amongst unspoilt natural surrounds.
For walking, first take the Zwölferhorn gondola to the top of the mountain, where a network of top-notch routes awaits. Then there’s lake swimming, cycling, sailing, fishing and winter skiing in the small, but impressively steep slopes of the Zwölferhorn.
Roam the Mozartplatz and visit the former home of the famous musician’s mother, seek out the hermitage hidden on the Falkenstein Cliffs, hike the Schafberg Mountain for panoramic views and super steep cog railway, and visit the array of gorgeous nearby lakeside villages such as St Wolfgang, Hallstatt and Fuschl.
